It used to be a great place to meet other fly fishermen who are interested in local area fly fishing. It closed in 2008. Here's a link to an San Jose Mercury News article about this event:
Ernie's Casting Pond, "a Santa Cruz institution," closing its doors
We will miss the shop, Ernie and Diane and all the chance meeting of fellow fishermen there. Ernie is a veteran trout and steelhead angler and was great source of local area fishing information. His website is still up and they will continue to post updates of their travels so visit it once in a while.

Another great place to meet other fly fishermen who are interested in local area fly fishing. The San Jose Fly Shop was the brain-child of Tom Malech. In 2006, Tom joined forces with Bernie Halterbeck of Fly Fishing Specialties. The San Jose Fly Shop then became Fly Fishing Specialties. The locations are in Sacramento and Los Gatos. The staff has great knowledge of local fly fishing and fly fishing products.
